SHWA has designed gardens and master plans for a number of educational institutions.

At Kenyon College, four new dormitories formed a sloped quadrangle beneath a grove of existing trees. Our asymmetrical path layout in this space, an extension of an important axis extending the length of the campus, provides access while contrasting with the formal layout of the buildings and adding interest to the space.

The Childrens School hired us to design a master plan encompassing a series of small gardens throughout the campus, each garden having a theme reflecting the media being used in a nearby building (a garden of fiber plants near the textile studio, for example).

At Childpeace Montessori school, we transformed an existing parking lot into an engaging playground for young children, even coordinating the installation of planting with students, parents, and teachers.
