For their small back yard, the clients asked for a swimming pool, spa, terrace, shower, and fireplace in a design that would incorporate lightness and humor. The result is an architectural garden which is classical in its layout but whimsical in its details. Three bronze frogs perched atop a wall spout water into the pool. Instead of a fireplace, four iron braziers, supported by custom-wrought iron rings with frog feet, flank the elliptical pool on low piers. The terrace is made of bands of multi-colored brick with bluestone infill and its separate spaces are marked with piers of stacked bluestone capped with brick. The fence of ipe hardwood boards with alternating bars of aluminum recalls the furniture selected for the garden. A shower back-splash of green glass tile supports a refinished antique shower.

The house's front garden features brick steps and retaining walls framing cheerful perennial plantings.
